Movies

Movies watched from November 2011 on, not in chronological order, incomplete list:
1. The Royal Tenenbaums (want to rewatch, delightful story of family of geniuses)
2. Sarah, Plain and Tall (like the children's chapter book, but with Christopher Walken... talking like himself)
3-7. Harry Potters 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 (MAGIC AND ADVENTURE)
8-10. Twilights 1, 2, 3 (Oh, Bella.)
11. Pariah (Teenage lesbian in NYC deals with life's problems)
12. The Muppets (best part: the song by Flight of the Conchords guy, and "traveling by map")
13. The Iron Lady (in which Meryl Streep is very good at her job)
14. The Artist (it got those Oscars for a reason)
15. The Red Balloon (I knew it! Balloons are alive!)
16. They Live (this title is not referring to happy balloons. This movie is about, like, paranoia, and sunglasses.)
17. Little Miss Sunshine (another interesting family in a not exactly family film.)
18. Rashomon (Japanese classic; 1950; lots of open-mouthed manic laughter from actors.)
19. The Hunger Games. (Based on book of same title. Dystopian future version of Minotaur story, sorta. Catchy.)
20. Rushmore (note to self: rewatch)
21. Edward Scissorhands (a little disappointed, there was a lot of hype)
22. Romy & Michele's High School Reunion (Like a ladies' version of A Night at the Roxbury)
23. First nine episodes of Doctor Who (latest run) and counting. Oh my gosh sooo glad I started watching this stuff. A little scary for the 8 year old part of me sometimes but otherwise SUPER, AMAZING, I AM SO SAD THAT CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON IS LEAVING AFTER THE SEASON I'M IN!
24. Okay I'm in the third season of Doctor Who now. Yay.
25. Jane Eyre, 2006 miniseries. A little overdramatic and... modernized, maybe? Is that the word for when the characters make out way more than I think they're supposed to, having read the book like half a dozen times? Am I just not getting the Victorian hints from Bronte where a bunch of vague long words actually indicate "the characters are making out now, while having this complex dialogue"? Anyways, yeah, television, and Rochester seemed too young to be Rochester, though now that I look at the Wikipedia entry for this work of artistry it's actually the actress who plays Jane who is a few years older than Jane Eyre was in the novel. Whatever, she passes as a seventeen-year-old to the believing eye and why not have Rochester be too cute by modern standards? Thinking I'll look for a different version to watch, get more adaptations into my life.
26. Eat, Pray, Love. Julia Roberts stars in adaptation of one of my favorite taking-it-very-easy books. Okay; wouldn't watch again.
27. Les Miserables, at the theatre, the new one with Anne Hathaway. If you're looking for a musical adapted to a movie, watch it. Many actors too recognizable I think ("that's Russel Crowe!" I thought, instead of, "Oh no, Javert!") but all in all good tearjerker with catchy songs. Look for book adaptation elsewhere.
28. He's Just Not That Into You. Sketches of different characters learning how to tell that someone is not into them. Funny/reassuring?/based on a self-help book. My main reaction though was: "Okay, got it. Now what?"
29. Airplane. Supposed to be really funny. Was at maybe a 7/10 on my funny scale and this DVD kept skipping.
30. Inception. Dreams in dreams in dreams interesting concept. Now I hear that theme music everywhere.
31. 500 Days of Summer. Quirky but felt like it was stolen from all over the place. Not my favorite.
32. I <3 Huckabees. Before seeing it, thought it would make a lot of sense. While seeing it, couldn't imagine that end would make sense. End made sense. Strange.
33. The Hobbit (part 1 of 3) at the theatre. So much testosterone on one screen.
34. Moonrise Kingdom. Pretty movie, good movie. Contains my dream of running away.
35. Overboard. Goldie Hawn is rich and annoying. Luckily, she loses her memory and is put to work taking care of a hot working class dude's three sons. What could go wrong?
36. The Silver Linings Playbook, in theatre. I have soooooo many problems with this movie, ai ai ai.
